Default 40. Mark Jamar

Mark Jamar

Quote:
He was born and raised in the country South Australian town of Port Pirie. He played his early football at the Lions Football Club of the Spencer Gulf Football League, before moving to North Adelaide in the SANFL. Jamar was a standout performer at the 2001 AFL National Under 18 Championships being selected in the All Australian team. However, despite this he was overlooked in that years Draft. He was, however, selected at pick 6 of the Rookie Draft by Melbourne.

He was elevated to the senior list, and debuted in 2003. Jamar wears the number 40 and is a 100 kg+ ruckman who sometimes fills in up forward.
Jamar sometimes goes by the nickname 'Russian'.

The Russky had a real breakthrough season this year, notwithstanding long periods out due to injury.

If he can maintain this level and build on it, we'll have one of the best ruckmen in the AFL, with legitimate potency up forward as well...

He first impressed me in the Game at Gold Coast. I thought he was a hack before that game. I paid a bit more attention to him after that and he followed it up over the next few weeks before getting injured.

His big game up forward late in the season was no fluke. I think he's arrived and will be a very dangerous ruck/key forward to the Dees

Jamar's best season, when he could actually get on the field. If PJ can get back to his 2007-08 form, not to mention Meesen, we'll have a pretty damn good Ruck combo.

The Russian Revolution

Mark Jamar, known to Melbourne supporters as 'The Russian', has been sensational this season and his efforts on the weekend nearly single handedly won Melbourne the game.

He debuted in way back in 2003 after being drafted by Melbourne with Pick 6 in the 2001 Rookie Draft. He took a fair amount of time to play consistent footy, but had purple patches here and there. His breakout season was in 2006 where he averaged 10 hitouts and was a vital part of Melbourne’s finals team that beat St Kilda in the elimination final. Injury mid-way through 2007 halted his campaign but as all good ruckmen do, he bounced back.

In 2008 he burst back onto the footballing publics’ radar being recognised for his consistent ruckwork but missed most of the 2009 season with a stress fracture to his foot, returning near the end of the season to kick 5 goals against the Blues and let the footballing public know he was still around.

Many rumours were going around that he might get delisted but Melbourne kept the faith. Oh boy, didn’t that pay off?
He has been very good this season

I'm so happy, looking back, that he took the one year deal with Melbourne rather than going to Port Adelaide.

Best season yet, if he doesn't get AA IMO it'll be a disgrace after they left Robertson out in 2005.
