Scullgove twins to tie for Rising Star
AFL: Melbourne

Hoping Trengove and Tapscott get called up this week. Otherwise my Demonland prediction of the week is screwed.

Here are some more details about player performances on Sunday.
From the reserves... Healy played well, is very much a hard-at-it player but is a fair way off the mark, I believe he is just back from injury, but even so he will need to show a lot in a hurry to be with us next year. Big Max Gawn was impressive with his ruck work & mobility but didn't get a lot of it, other than free kicks for holding in a ruck contest. He only played the 1st half again but did spend the majority of that half on the ground. The young bloke will have learnt a lot today as his main opponent was Max Bailey, who is a big strong unit. A young bloke who I saw play really well a number of times last year, was also a standout, Creed. Main game... Trengove stood out like a beacon, he will play first team next week for sure, and Nichols and Warnock were also amongst our best. Tapscott was good & extremely hard at it, he was clearly enjoying playing in the same team as his mate & will be doing it on the big stage this year. Other Melb player performances, bearing in mind the conditions today were very difficult for all out there: Miller, did his job as a focal point, good at this level. McNamara, was servicable at best. Bell, usual hard nut performance, good vfl player. Maric, Personally I don't like the way he plays, he seems to want to take the sneaky easy option to get his kicks, if he doesn't get the ball delivered to him & it is turned over, his man was usually the one he is involved in the play. More time at Casey for him. Jetta, what he did was impressive, just not enough of it. Fitzpatrick, contested well in the ruck but that was about it. Cheney, did a solid job but not his best game. Strauss, my big disappointment for the day. This guy has it all but is just not involved enough. Maybe needs a good kick up the arse to get him going. Overall, it was just an ok effort & it seemed like they were all expecting to win in the last quarter because they were kicking with the wind, but Box Hill had other ideas... |
